IT’S THE LAW (3/9/2021)

Oklahoma’s House of Representatives has passed a data privacy bill in an 85-11 vote. The legislation, which now moves to the state Senate, overcame industry opposition and adds pressure on the federal government to enact privacy legislation as Oklahoma joins California, Virginia, New York, Washington and other states. The four pillars of the new legislation are: right to know, right to delete, right to opt-out of collection, and an opt-in requirement beginning in 2023.  Private right of action didn't make it through committee.

Privacera closes $50M; DataGrail closes $30M — in Series B funding

Customers can also set and enforce policies to control access or encrypt data. DataGrail, the privacy-as-a-service company, helps with compliance by integrating with more than 100 applications, including Salesforce, Adobe and Oracle, and helps customers understand requirements of complex privacy regulations. The system works using Neustar and customer-provided data to help ensure companies know who, when and how they can reach customers for optimal results – without needing to go through an IT department,  customer contact center, or analytics resources.

Hopin Raises $400 Million for Virtual Events

Let’s take a break from worrying about cookie replacements to look at a channel where the only cookies are the ones you can chew: events.  While the pandemic halted live events, the online event industry has been booming.  So much so that virtual event platform Hopin went from zero to 85,000 clients and 400 employees in less than two years.  They just raised a $400 million Series C, bringing their total funding to $571 million.
