The UK has released a first look at its proposed data protection reforms post-Brexit. The consultation document, "Data: a new direction" invites input until November 19th and provides details on plans to handle data in a pro-growth, pro-business way, that may put it at odds with GDPR. The far-reaching changes, if passed, raise questions about data transfers and flow of information between the EU and UK. Changes under consideration include requiring organizations to run a privacy management program, raising the threshold for breach reporting, and charging for or refusing data subject access requests deemed costly to a company.

New report shows 60% increase in credential theft of patient data at health delivery organizations since COVID

A Ponemon Institute survey of nearly 600 IT professionals at Healthcare Delivery Organizations (HDOs) found remote work, new systems, staff challenges and elevated patient care requirements a significant risk to patient safety and data. Sixty percent of those surveyed reported increased credential theft, and expanded use of 3rd party vendors, with projections that use of 3rd parties would increase 30% in the coming year.

Consumers want smooth, convenient, transparent web registration – if not, 77% report they would switch to a competitor

A survey of 3,400 consumers in the US, UK, Germany, France and Australia looked at registration, login and attitudes toward privacy serves as a warning to companies to keep processes concise and the time required short, with more than half saying they ditched a site that was too frustrating, and 63% prepared to leave a site in favor of another that made authentication easier.

Children’s Privacy: Facebook pauses Instagram Kids following WSJ report backlash that it knew it harms teens

Widespread outrage resulting from a Wall Street Journal report including research from in-house documents showing Facebook knows Instagram is harmful to teens, but is advancing its Instagram for Kids program anyway, has caused the company to retrench – though only to pause the program for ages up to 13. Those older, the company says, would have expanded parental oversight. Marketers Struggle for Personalization Success: RedPoint Global Survey

This Harris Poll study for Redpoint Global offers a sobering view of customer experience reality.  They found that marketers are twice as likely as consumers to think brands deliver an excellent experience (51% vs 26%), while under half of the marketers who use advanced technologies including personalization, AI-driven recommendations, or multi-variate testing think they are having great success with them.  Fun fact: the average number of customer engagement systems is now 16, nearly double the figure in 2019.

Average Marketing Department Has 44 SaaS Apps, Uses About Half: Productiv Report

Here’s another fun fact: the average company has 254 SaaS applications, according to this survey from SaaS management vendor Productiv.  Less fun: just 45% of those apps are used on a regular basis, although the rate is a slightly higher 54% for apps that departments select for themselves.  Small surprise: the average marketing departments uses 44 SaaS apps, which is fewer than most other departments.

Few Companies Have Mature Customer Journey Management: Winterberry Study

If you’re collecting stats on CDP usage, 25% of brand marketers surveyed for Winterberry Group have a CDP and another 9% plan to add one.  That compares with 58% having an enterprise data warehouse and 65% with a marketing database.  The main thrust of the study is customer journey management, and Winterberry concludes that the going so far has been rough: it finds just 17% of companies are “journey focused”, while 58% are still organized around campaigns.  Download for detailed maturity models, if you’re into that sort of thing.
