Amazon Prime Video launches local service in Nigeria

Amazon Prime Video has announced the launch of the localized version of its streaming service in one of Africa’s biggest markets: Nigeria. Just as it did in Southeast Asia recently, the tech giant is attempting to boost its subscriber push in new markets like Africa by increasing its investment in local production, unveiling slates of localized originals and introducing discounted Amazon Prime membership offerings to customers.

Dentsu Group Acquires a Majority Stake in Extentia to Strengthen Customer Transformation and Technology Capabilities

Dentsu Group Inc has entered into an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Extentia, a global technology and services firm with a focus on enterprise mobility, cloud engineering, and user experiences. Extentia will join Merkle, a leading technology-enabled, data-driven customer experience management (CXM) company within Dentsu Group’s international business, Dentsu International. With this acquisition, Extentia further bolsters Merkle’s existing Salesforce capabilities, adding scale and additional geography in India.

CJEU ruling has adtech warning lights flashing

The European Union’s Court of Justice (CJEU) ruling this week in an anti-corruption case has legal experts considering broad implications, including for adtech, online platforms and apps due to liability from inferences drawn from personal data. The court’s decision relates to GDPR’s Article 9, which focuses on processing special categories of data and protecting personal sensitive data. The top EU court determined publishing the name of a spouse or partner amounts to processing sensitive data because it can reveal sexual orientation. This may remove a loophole in holding behavioral data that Big Tech and others have relied upon.

Facebook may be staring down a federal class action – over health data

The data of millions of patients may have been collected by Facebook (Meta) via healthcare provider websites without people’s knowledge or consent. This comes via a Jane Doe, a claimant who alleges the company harvested her data via Meta Pixel code, which was embedded into a California health care center portal. This and a lawsuit last month, also from California, allege violation of California privacy regulation.
