Twilio Segment Launches Reverse ETL for Cloud Database Connections

Those cloud data warehouses that everyone loves – looking at you, Snowflake – are apparently harder to access than you might expect.  Twilio Segment is the second CDP this week to introduce a “reverse ETL” product that pulls data out of cloud databases into Twilio’s own data store, which in turn will share it with other systems.  Segment also launched a complementary product, Profiles Sync, that moves profiles into cloud databases.

Most Retail Media Sales Are Outside of Retailer-Owned Channels: Merkle Study

This Merkle study offers a deep dive into retail media networks from both retailer and advertiser perspectives. One surprise is that it’s actually more common for retail media networks to target customers in external media than retailer-owned channels. Another is that understanding shoppers is a more common reason for brands to use retail media than delivering personalized messages or gaining access to sales results.

Meta and LiveRamp Expand Targeting with Advertisers’ Data

We interrupt our usual stream of bad-Meta news to report that they’ve partnered with LiveRamp to expand targeting of Meta campaigns based on advertisers’ first-party data.  Specifically, LiveRamp’s Authenticated Traffic Solution can now connect to Facebook’s Conversions API.  You either know what that means or don’t care.  In more good news, Meta announced Media Ratings Council brand safety certification for its Instream Video and Instant Articles, but not the (much larger) Facebook Feed and Instagram Feed ad placements.

Google stops enforcing Play Store billing in India after antitrust order

Following a recent ruling by India’s competition regulator, Google announced it has halted the enforcement of its Play Store billing policy in the country, which requires developers to pay up to 30% for in-app purchases. The announcement arrives days after the Competition Commission of India ordered Google to let app developers use alternative payment systems and fined it $113 million for abusing its market power. The country also issued a fine of $161.9 million on the company the previous week for being anti-competitive in the Android mobile device market.
