Most Retail Media Sales Are Outside of Retailer-Owned Channels: Merkle Study

This Merkle study offers a deep dive into retail media networks from both retailer and advertiser perspectives. One surprise is that it’s actually more common for retail media networks to target customers in external media than retailer-owned channels. Another is that understanding shoppers is a more common reason for brands to use retail media than delivering personalized messages or gaining access to sales results.

Meta and LiveRamp Expand Targeting with Advertisers’ Data

We interrupt our usual stream of bad-Meta news to report that they’ve partnered with LiveRamp to expand targeting of Meta campaigns based on advertisers’ first-party data.  Specifically, LiveRamp’s Authenticated Traffic Solution can now connect to Facebook’s Conversions API.  You either know what that means or don’t care.  In more good news, Meta announced Media Ratings Council brand safety certification for its Instream Video and Instant Articles, but not the (much larger) Facebook Feed and Instagram Feed ad placements.

mParticle Adds Cloud Data Warehouse Connector

mParticle has hoisted a reverse-ETL flag with Warehouse Sync, a core system feature which adds the ability to pull data from cloud warehouses such as Snowflake. Unlike stand-alone reverse-ETL products, mParticle loads the data into its own data store and applies processes such as identity resolution, profile creation, predictive modeling, and journey management before sending it to other systems. Warehouse Sync connects to Snowflake today and will add Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, and Microsoft Azure.
