South African car subscription service Planet42 raises $100M equity, debt

Planet42, a South Africa-based car subscription company that buys used cars from dealerships and rents to customers via a subscription model, has raised $100 million in equity and debt from a wide range of investors. According to the company, the new financing, comprised of equity, credit facility and debt, will rapidly scale its business and provide a million cars globally to people excluded from traditional car financing.

Google AI Creates Search Ad Content

“Artificial intelligence” – perhaps you’ve heard of it? It’s no longer news when a company offers an AI-based product, but automatically creating advertising assets still is worth a whisper. Google has opened a public beta test for its tool to do that for search ads, based on materials the AI finds on the client’s landing page, website, existing advertisements and ad group keywords. Remember: good artists borrow, great artists steal.

LiveRamp Offers Secure Data Collaboration for Cross-Screen Measurement

How can we talk about buzzwords and not mention data clean rooms? LiveRamp doesn’t use the term in its announcement of “secure and flexible data collaboration capabilities for cross-screen measurement across multiple partners”, but it sounds like one to me. Companies can securely share their data with each other and can enhance it with LiveRamp partner data sets for things like ad exposures and purchases.

Surveillance in Australian Woolworths

Woolworths has raised ire for its dubious new improvement of adding surveillance cameras to monitor customers (without notification) using self-checkout in 100 of its Australian stores. Woolworth, which plans a larger rollout to more stores, bills this as a way to prevent “accidental” wrong scans. Consumers very aware of breach and hack increases; want more security

Consumers know the more they do digitally, the more their data is at risk. According to Daon’s survey of more than 3,000 US and UK consumers, people foresee cybersecurity threats persisting and believe these will continue to outpace the cyber technology to control them. Most surveyed want more security for financial accounts (93%) and to have their identity protected (91%). Participants also said they would be willing to take extra security steps daily (91%), including use of biometrics (81%).
