People Want Something Back for Sharing Data: Here Technologies

Next, a report from HERE Technologies that finds people are more willing to share their data if they get a benefit in return, such as safety, security, using a service or saving money. That sure seems obvious although a study last month found people were more likely to share data if not told the purpose than if told the purpose was personalized advertising.

Facebook Will Honor Android and iOS Privacy Settings

Facebook is taking an uncharacteristically proactive step on privacy, announcing it will honor Android and iOS privacy settings when they are more restrictive than a user’s Facebook privacy settings. It’s easy to speculate that the real goal is avoiding repeated reminders to users for how much data is being collected. But let’s instead see it as evidence that privacy concerns are having a positive impact on business behavior.

Customer Data Platform Industry Adds New Vendors: CDP Institute Report

Software vendors continued to add Customer Data Platform (CDP) capabilities to existing systems in the first half of 2024, according to the CDP Institute’s latest Industry Update report.  Nearly all of the dozen companies appearing in the report for the first time started as marketing or messaging applications and added CDP capabilities after they were built.  These firms accounted for most of the industry growth during the report period.
