Allstate has been sued by the State of New York over handling of a data breach by the company’s National General unit.
National General had back-to-back breaches in 2020 and 2021. in the first case, it did not notify drivers or New York officials about the breach. This was followed by a second bigger breach a year later.
Google’s ‘Results about You’ has been redesigned to make it easier to locate and remove data from search results. Users who sign up for the service gain the ability to know when personal data is accessed and are notified about new interactions. The company has also made it easier to request removal of Google Search data
Utah’s App Store Accountability Act, which passed by large margins in the state House and Senate, has been sent to the governor to sign. Passage would make it the first bill in the US to require app distributors, including Google and Apple, to verify user ages and then block minors under 18 from downloading apps without parental consent. Expect a legal challenge.
Preliminary findings by the European Commission state that Apple and Google are in violation of the EU’s Digital Markets Act. Among the findings, Google Search is accused of prioritizing Google’s own products and services in results; Apple is instructed to improve interoperability between iOS and third-party devices. The companies now have an opportunity to respond.
