The ANPD, Brazil’s regulator, has banned Meta’s use of Brazilian citizen data for AI training. The company, which recently decided to give itself permission to use Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram data from Brazilian users, has been given five working days to comply or risk daily fines of 50,000 reais (around $8,808). Pittance in Meta terms, but still a good stand to take in one of Meta’s largest markets.
While 75% of enterprises say they are implementing AI, almost as many (72%) cite data quality and problems scaling data practices as obstacles to success. Sixty-two percent cite the cost of compute as a barrier to scaling. While 53% have a data strategy in places, 77% still lack a single source of data truth.
Cyber Press discovered a 9.4GB leak of Twitter data containing nearly 200 million records. This leaves users vulnerable to phishing attacks, identity theft and exploitation of data.
Google lashed out at the Department of Justice’s threat to break up the company, calling the proposals “radical.” Among other things, Google says the proposals would threaten users’ privacy, stifle innovation and break Android and Chrome. Given the appeals process, it will likely be years before we know whether Google will stay in one piece.
