Children’s Privacy: A third of GDPR fines issued to top social media platforms was for mishandling kid data

In the seven years since GDPR was enacted, five of the ten most popular platforms – Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and X (formerly Twitter) received fines totaling €3.9 billion (~$4.5 billion). A third of those fines were related to the handling of children’s data. No prize for guessing that Meta had the most, according to a report from cybersecurity company, Surfshark.
