The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) reported more than 2,000 children as young as age three were groomed online to perform sexual abuse acts in 2023. The organization also found that online child abuse material is more extreme, and reported a 22% increase in their image category A (the indication of the highest level of abuse).
The Protecting Georgia’s Children on Social Media Act has been signed by the governor, and it follows similar laws in other states including Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and Utah that require parental consent for minors to create new social media accounts. Opponents of this bill earlier raised concerns it may violate kids’ First Amendment rights.
While not setting a new legal precedent since the ruling was specific to the suspect’s parole agreement, the court’s decision does reinforce concern about ways biometrics will be used for law enforcement.
Twilio is adding ‘contextual awareness’ to its Segment CDP, which in plainer English means data stored in Segment will be available when creating event-triggered, real-time messages. This and a redesigned journey architecture are part of Twilio’s “next generation” customer engagement platform, which also includes natural voice AI agents, voice and text analytics, and RCS and WhatsApp messaging. Twilio separately announced a multi-year partnership with Microsoft to speed the adoption of conversational AI for customer engagement.
