Children’s Privacy: Facebook’s Youth Commoditization Plan: From newborns to playdates to teen angst

Turns out Instagram teen targeting is just the tip of the kid-sales iceberg at Facebook. This week while US Senators were grilling the company about harm its research showed Instagram photo-sharing doing to teens, the Wall Street Journal reported on more company research that reveals the company was looking to explore how even preschool children might be converted to platform users. Interestingly the article adds, Facebook daily use among teens fell 19% in the last two years, and is projected to drop an additional 45% by 2023 – teens seem to be onto something.
