Despite numerous lawsuits, Clearview AI intends massive expansion to move beyond scanning faces for law enforcement, including use of new technologies to monitor “gig economy” workers.
The lawsuit, dating back to 2012, alleged that Facebook had used cookies, plug-ins, and the ability to track logged-out users to collect mass amounts of data to sell to advertisers. If the settlement is accepted, the company will also have to delete all the information it had collected within the parameters of the suit.
Oman announced passage of a Data Protection Law that is designed to bring the country’s data privacy regime into closer alignment with global data protection laws. Provisions include the rights to consent, rectification, access, and erasure of personal data. The law will go into effect February 2023 and includes hefty fines for companies and individuals that are not in compliance.

IPG Mediabrands announced a new set of tools to find and block inappropriate ad placements, while IAS expanded its suitability measurements to include standards from the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM). Meanwhile, DoubleVerify admitted a mistake made brand safety on X/Twitter look worse than it really was in October 2023 and March 2024.
