The European Union, long lauded for its GDPR privacy law, has also been criticized for how long it takes to investigate and enforce it. This is particularly true of cross-border cases involving Big Tech. To address this the EU announced new rules to designate a 12+ month time frame for the process and to have mechanisms for recourse when it’s not followed. Critics fear it may deter or cause dismissal of cases.
CDP Hightouch has announced that it has been accepted into the Mach Alliance, a global non-profit that certifies vendors who deliver open technologies and solutions. Hightouch says it aligns with a number of key Mach Alliance principles. These include composability, openness and interoperability, integration with a broader eco-system through APIs and incrementality (rather than “big bang” migration).
The US Supreme Court’s conservative majority prevailed in a 6-3 ruling to uphold Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. This takes away parental rights to decide for their own children and is in keeping with other recent regulations and moves to limit or exclude transgender people from the military, sports and other areas.
The web search tool Perplexity looks like it’s taking on Google with its latest release, a web browser named Comet. Comet claims to move “from browsing to thinking,” surfacing information and search results in response to natural language queries. Comet is available immediately to Perplexity Max subscribers; others can join a wait list.
