In Brief: New York State, which does not yet have a privacy law, found 13 popular ecommerce sites in violation of state consumer protection laws that do cover privacy

The state has published guidance information for businesses and consumers on how to comply and have privacy protected. These are: the Website Privacy Controls: A Guide for Business and A Consumer Guide to Web Tracking.

Census Launches Universal Data Platform

Data activation and reverse ETL platform Census is launching Universal Data Platform, which provides data governance, transformation and activation functions to create CDP-style customer profiles in a cloud data warehouse.  Features are designed for use by both business and technical users. Census’ blog post notes that “composable CDPs” have focused only on activation, but doesn’t mention that some “composable” vendors now offer more.

Consumers Eager for Personalized Content: Marigold

It’s all surveys today, Dear Reader.  Marigold reports that consumers are eager for personalized content, with 79% saying they’re likely to engage with a personalized email tailored to their interests.  Sadly, 33% feel their needs are unmet by current brand messages.  Discounts and coupons (95%) top the list of what they want in exchange for personal data, followed closely by loyalty rewards at 94%.  Content is last at 61%.
