In Brief: The US and 6 other countries announce international partnership to establish a Global Cross Border Privacy Rules forum

The group, which also includes Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the Philippines and Taiwan will develop an international certification system to help companies demonstrate compliance.

Marketers Undervalue Email Personalization: Sailthru Study

By now, it’s old news that marketers overestimate how good they are at personalization.  This Sailthru survey repeats the trope: 71% of marketers think they “excel” at personalized marketing while just 34% of consumers agree.  Other, less common findings include: email personalization is more important to consumers than to marketers, and big companies do much more advanced personalization than smaller ones.  Worth a look.

Meta Releases Lying, Offensive AI and Pretends to Be Surprised

Like trouble, bad behavior by Meta shows up whether you look for it or not.  The latest is an open-source language model that was supposed to provide reliable search results because it was trained on academic papers.  Alas, it was quickly withdrawn after reviewers found that it returned results that were grammatical and plausible but also incorrect, not to mention filled with “antisemitism, homophobia, and misogyny.”  How can this be a surprise?
