The United States has over a dozen state privacy laws pending for 2023. Eight states are considering consumer privacy bills. New Jersey, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia are considering children’s privacy bills; Maryland and Mississippi have filed biometric privacy bills; and New York, Virginia, and Washington are considering health privacy bills.
A majority of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) moved to ratify the protocol and establish a legal basis for cross-border disclosure of electronic information as part of law enforcement operations. Liberal groups had opposed the move due to concern EU citizen data could then be given to countries with less stringent rules for privacy protection.

IPG Mediabrands announced a new set of tools to find and block inappropriate ad placements, while IAS expanded its suitability measurements to include standards from the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM). Meanwhile, DoubleVerify admitted a mistake made brand safety on X/Twitter look worse than it really was in October 2023 and March 2024.
