IT’S THE LAW (06/11/2024)

Privacy laws of Texas, Oregon and Florida come into effect July 1. Texas has just announced it will establish a dedicated enforcement team to operate within its Consumer Protection Division to enforce the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, a law that unlike many other states doesn’t set a volume threshold for law applicability. The Oregon Consumer Privacy Act is distinct in that it defines sensitive data to include revealing status as transgender, or nonbinary; or status as a victim of a crime. Florida’s Digital Bill of Rights applies only to a limited set of companies that conduct business in Florida, collect personal data about Florida consumers, and make in excess of $1 billion in global gross annual revenue.
