Maryland adds strict guidelines to business requirements following security breaches. An amendment to the state’s Personal Information Protection Act going into effect this fall specifies that businesses must inform data owners or licensees of within 10 days of a breach, and companies must also notify major media within the geographic region where individuals are likely to reside.

Google Again Delays Third-Party Cookie Deprecation

Procrastinators of the world can throw a party whenever they get around to it: Google has once more pushed back complete third-party cookie deprecation.  The new target is “early next year.” Reasons for the delay include concerns expressed by U.K. data regulator Information Commissioner’s Office, an ongoing inquiry by the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority, and widespread discontent in the advertising ecosystem.
