IT’S THE LAW (07/06/2021)

The Data Security Law of the People’s Republic of China (DSL) has been issued and will come into effect September 1. The law governs data activities conducted in China as well as that of organizations from outside that are determined by their activity to harm China’s national security, public interest, or legal interest of its organizations or citizens. It broadens restrictions on transmitting any data for foreign and judicial law enforcement and imposes multiple obligations for data security with a hefty fine for violation, including possible confiscation of up to 10x profits gained, if they are deemed unlawful.
