Saudi Arabia’s Council of Ministers has approved a Personal Data Protection Law, which is planned to be implemented within six months. The law, which has yet to be published, will protect personal data that directly or indirectly identifies users from collection and processing without consent.
Security experts have revealed that millions of people who got COVID tested at Walgreens may have had their personal data, including name, email, phone number and date of birth, exposed, and that test result data may also have been deduced.
They found that consumers don’t want to be tracked, though 81% say they would like to see relevant ads. The marketers, looking toward a cookie-less future, placed first-party data at the top of their list for marketing plans followed by cohort-based and contextual targeting.
It’s tough to get brand safety right, but the industry keeps trying. IPG Mediabrands announced a new set of tools to find and block inappropriate ad placements, while IAS expanded its suitability measurements to include standards from the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM). Meanwhile, DoubleVerify admitted a mistake made brand safety on X/Twitter look worse than it really was in October 2023 and March 2024.
