Florida’s Protecting DNA Privacy Act (the “Act”) went into effect this month, amending Florida’s genetic privacy law and potentially elevating unlawful use of DNA to the level of a felony, up from a misdemeanor minor charge. This will prohibit medical insurers from canceling or denying coverage based on DNA findings, or setting different premiums around genetics.
Apple made big news advocating for privacy, and it’s looking like it made a handsome profit doing so. The Financial Times just reported Apple’s App Store ad business has soared as its new policies cut into profits of Facebook and Google. Customers want brands to make authentication easier, and are tired of password protocols – tracking, upgrading, replacing, and reconfirming. More than 90% would consider using a biometric ID to expedite the process, and 82% would prefer to do business with companies that make verification safe and easy, according to a CMO Council survey.
Continuing its early fall shopping spree, Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire data protection and management company Own (it is also acquiring voice agent vendor Tenyx). In addition to analytics capabilities Own will enhance Salesforce’s existing data security tools. It has been a Salesforce AppExchange partner for over 10 years.
