Pending final approval, Sri Lanka plans to amend its Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Changes include providing greater flexibility for cross-border data flows and giving data controllers more flexibility to decide on storage and access, particularly for AI.

Children’s Privacy: Denmark draws line at age 15 for social media access

The Danish government announced plans for a social media ban to protect children under age 15. The ban, which lawmakers believe necessary since Big Tech hasn’t provided sufficient safeguards for kids, will take a few months to come into effect. This will set a new standard in the EU and follows a landmark ruling in Australia last December which marked the world’s first social media ban for children.

Meta Strikes AI Deals with Multiple News Publishers

Meta has announced agreements with USA Today, People Inc., and other news publishers to pay for access to their content and link to their articles in its AI chatbot. It’s a sharp contrast to Perplexity, which the Chicago Tribune and New York Times are separately suing for allegedly scraping content and bypassing paywalls. Despite this deal, Meta apparently still opposes compensating publishers for news links in social media posts.
