Kazakhstan has a new AI law which outlines obligations for owners and users of AI systems. This includes a ban on AI that is manipulative or improperly handles personal data. Fun fact: Kazakhstan is the world’s ninth largest country (by land area).
The Cyber Security and Resilience Bill (CSRB) proposes to protect the UK from hackers via incident reporting and managing supply chain vulnerability. It also places new controls on large data centers and mandates speedy reporting of breaches. Pending Parliament’s adoption, the law could be in effect in 2026.
Meta and TikTok have each filed suits claiming California’s Protecting Our Kids From Social Media Addiction Act (PKSMAA) violates the First Amendment following a court ruling last year that disallowed a NetChoice suit and said only individual companies could file challenges.
Meta has announced agreements with USA Today, People Inc., and other news publishers to pay for access to their content and link to their articles in its AI chatbot. It’s a sharp contrast to Perplexity, which the Chicago Tribune and New York Times are separately suing for allegedly scraping content and bypassing paywalls. Despite this deal, Meta apparently still opposes compensating publishers for news links in social media posts.
