A class action over Oracle’s alleged collection and sale of web user data resulted in a $115 million settlement. The settlement came shortly after Oracle said it was shutting down its ad business, which had about $300 million revenue in the past fiscal year.
Over 90% of B2B marketers have stepped up content creation in 2024. This is based on a survey of 450 marketing executives in North America and Europe by 10Fold. Many are also leaning more heavily into social media (46%) and video (41%), while around 50% are now issuing new content daily.
Italy’s antitrust regulators believe Google may have misled users of multiple company platforms, including YouTube, Gmail and Maps, into agreeing to allow it to combine their personal data collected from different services. This is because the company gave them limited choice options.
Google lashed out at the Department of Justice’s threat to break up the company, calling the proposals “radical.” Among other things, Google says the proposals would threaten users’ privacy, stifle innovation and break Android and Chrome. Given the appeals process, it will likely be years before we know whether Google will stay in one piece.
