Data from 61 million Apple and Fitbit user fitness tracker records was exposed in a non-password-protected database belonging to GetHeath, a company which manages health and wellness data from hundreds of wearables, medical devices and apps.
They found that consumers don’t want to be tracked, though 81% say they would like to see relevant ads. The marketers, looking toward a cookie-less future, placed first-party data at the top of their list for marketing plans followed by cohort-based and contextual targeting.
The Data Protection Commission (DPC) in Ireland has an investigation into TikTok’s handling of children’s data to determine whether the company is complying with EU regulations about minors. This is one of two DPC investigations announced about TikTok, the other is on how data transfers to China are bring handled.
The U.S. Senate has passed a bill that could potentially ban TikTok in the U.S. if its Chinese owner, ByteDance, does not sell its holdings within a year. The bill now goes to the President Biden, who has said he will sign it. Court challenges are likely to follow.
