The UK government is overhauling its privacy rules and is weighing changes, including ending cookie popups and online consent requests. If so, it will have to balance loosening its rules in comparison with those of the EU while considering implications for adequacy for compliance to allow data transfers under GDPR.
Walmart doing stuff is apparently a trend in itself, but so far they seem to have missed the “data observability” market. We do have a $200 million Series C for data observability vendor Cribl. Just last week, Cribl competitor Monte Carlo raised a $60 million Series C of its own.
An Illinois judge refused to dismiss the biometric data privacy suit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and other advocacy groups against Clearview AI. The groups, citing Illinois’ BIPA biometrics law, want Clearview to delete all face biometrics collected from Illinois residents without consent.
The U.S. Senate has passed a bill that could potentially ban TikTok in the U.S. if its Chinese owner, ByteDance, does not sell its holdings within a year. The bill now goes to the President Biden, who has said he will sign it. Court challenges are likely to follow.
