Ad Audience Builder Viant to Acquire Adelphic Ad Buying Platform

Time Inc.-owned Viant, which manages device-based advertising profiles for 1.2 billion users, has signed an agreement to purchase Adelphic, a cross-channel programmatic ad platform. The combination will make it easier for ad buyers to reach consumers within the Viant universe. Viant sees the deal as providing an open Web alternative to advertising within “walled gardens” such as Facebook, where the garden owner controls ad delivery, pricing and data.

It just announced an expanded integration framework of APIs and Web hooks to simplify connections with other marketing management systems. This is emphatically not about customer data.  Instead, it’s about marketing processes such as planning, budgeting, project management, media buying, content creation, and measurement. The basic organizational unit is a marketing “activity” such as an email campaign or media buy. It’s useful to occasionally remind ourselves that marketers need more than customer data.

Independent Grocer Is First to Deploy Amazon Just Walk Out Technology

Here’s a retail story that doesn’t involve a media network – but don’t worry, it does feature Amazon, AI, and Kansas City.  Independent retailer Community Groceries will be the first non-Amazon company to deploy the Amazon One entry gate and Amazon’s Just Walk Out checkout technology.  Amazon One grants entry after reading your palm or credit card, while Just Walk Out tracks what customers put in their cart and charges for it.  O brave new world.
