Biggest event was Apple CEO Tim Cook’s address to European Union privacy regulators, in which he praised GDPR, called for similar legislation in the U.S., and argued that personal information “is being weaponized against us with military efficiency.”
Should marketers be in charge of customer data? A study by Econsultancy for SAP suggests the answer is yes: companies doing the best job with their customer data are vastly more likely than others to say marketing owns the customer (66% vs 11%) and manages customer data operations (44% vs 25%). Leaders are better at lots of other things, too. Well worth a look.
Data privacy management company TrustArc has released an Intelligence Engine that monitors a company’s data flows, identifies high-risk activities, and conducts an automated Data Protection Impact Assessment. Given the volume and complexity of customer data processing, this sort of automation is the pretty much essential for compliance.
Reports emerged at the weekend that Salesforce was in advanced talks to acquire data management and integration platform Informatica. The deal would be Salesforce’s largest since acquiring Slack in 2021, and shares fell 7% Monday on the news. Informatica would add more advanced technical capabilities to the Salesforce product line.
