AWS launches 4th round of funding for underrepresented founders in SA

South African startups have been invited to apply for up to ZAR7.5million (US$400,000) in seed funding and benefits from the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Equity Equivalent Investment Programme (AWS EEIP) to jumpstart their business. Launched in 2019, the AWS EEIP programme was created to support more equity and inclusion in the South African small and medium-sized ecosystem.

Cairo-based startup Grinta, a fintech-enabled B2B tech platform digitising the pharmaceutical supply chain, has acquired Alexandria-based online pharmacy Auto-Cure to expand its footprint in the country. Founded in 2021 by Mohamed Azab, Yosra Badr, Ali Youssef, and Hamza Mohamed, Grinta is a managed marketplace that modernises the pharmaceutical supply chain by empowering independent pharmacies.

Salesforce Buys Airkit.ai for Automated Customer Service

Salesforce is buying Airkit.ai, which builds low-code, AI-powered e-commerce customer service agents.  You might have thought Salesforce could already do that, but presumably Airkit does it better.  It doesn’t hurt that the company founders sold a previous business to Salesforce, the company was partly funded by Salesforce Ventures, and the product is already listed on AppExchange.  Price was not announced.
