Consumers Expect to Be Hacked and Don’t Know Who Can Help

Nearly half (45%) of consumers expect their email or social media accounts to be hacked in the coming year, according to a survey by PwC and BAV Group.  Over one quarter (29%) expect to be victims of credit card fraud and 18% expect to have their identity stolen. They don’t know where to look for help: 82% say government should regulate use of data but 70% say government is ineffective at protecting privacy. A smaller majority, 60%, say companies are responsible for protecting data. Marketing and advertising companies are the least trusted of all.
