The Department of Justice, together with sixteen district attorneys, has filed its long-expected lawsuit against Apple alleging antitrust violations relating to the iPhone. It targets the iPhone’s resistance to working with non-Apple apps and devices such as third-party messaging platforms and smart watches. The suit also alleges Apple makes it difficult for consumers to switch smartphones.
OneTrust is offering its Universal Consent and Preference Management capabilities within Adobe Real-Time CDP, part of the Adobe Experience Cloud. OneTrust will help customers control how their data is used by brands. It will also support personalized experiences that are automatically rendered compliant with privacy regulations.
The French national competition authority, Autorité de la Concurrence, has fined Alphabet Inc., Google LLC, Google Ireland Ltd and Google France a total of €250 million ($271 million) for failure to comply with a 2022 decision governing use of Web content to train its Bard AI foundational language model. Among the infringements, Google used content from press agencies and publishers without notifying them. Google lashed out at the Department of Justice’s threat to break up the company, calling the proposals “radical.” Among other things, Google says the proposals would threaten users’ privacy, stifle innovation and break Android and Chrome. Given the appeals process, it will likely be years before we know whether Google will stay in one piece.
