Google recently expanded Opal, a tool that can “create custom content in a consistent, scalable way.” Marketers have noticed that Google Search’s scaled content abuse policy prohibits the use of gen AI “to generate many pages without adding value for users.” They question if Opal represents a double standard of this policy.

Despite this deal, Meta apparently still opposes compensating publishers for news links in social media posts.
