Meltwater Buys Owler for $24.5 Million

Not every business information story has a happy ending.  Crowd-sourced company data collector Owler was just bought by media-monitoring firm Meltwater for $24.5 million in cash and equity.  Owler had raised $30.8 million in funding, according to Crunchbase.

Google Defers Demise of Third-Party Cookies

I know you’ve already heard the news, but still feel obligated to report that Google has announced it will support third-party cookies in Chrome until the end of 2023, more than a year longer than expected.  They nobly cite concern for “the business models of many web publishers” but protecting their own revenue and data-gathering seems a more plausible motivation.  They’re also grounding FLoC, their much-criticized cohort-based targeting alternative, until further notice.

Bombora Offers B2B Ad Targeting and Personalization Based on Content Consumption

Bombora has launched Visitor Insights, a consent-based website tag that tracks the topics a device has consumed.   It infers intent, job function, management level, and other information that B2B publishers can use for ad targeting and personalization.  This Bombora report shows intent trends by industry: for example, media and advertising users show 70% more interest in Customer Data Platforms than they did last year.
