FTC to Investigate ‘Surveillance Pricing’

The Federal Trade Commission announced it will investigate so-called “surveillance pricing,” the use of AI to determine the price of products or services based on analysis of customers’ characteristics and behavior. Among the companies to be investigated are MasterCard and JPMorgan Chase. Most of us would call this “dynamic pricing”, which consumers generally hate (and an earlier, Republican-dominated FTC said was okay).
