Meta’s main subcontractor for content moderation in Africa, Sama, announced earlier Tuesday the closure of its content moderation arm at its hub in Kenya, citing the need to streamline operations. This comes months after Sama and Meta were sued in the East African country for union busting and exploitation, and just weeks after another lawsuit called for Meta to increase its content moderation capacity in Kenya.
HealthAtom, cloud-based software for clinics and health centers to manage their business, announced a Series A for US$10 million. This is the first institutional round of this startup, founded in Chile in 2009. Focused on medium and small healthcare providers, HealthAtom currently has 6,500 clients and commercial offices in Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. The plan is for the capital to be used to continue expanding in Latin America and to create a single platform for healthcare technology solutions, where clinics can be interconnected with the healthcare and financial ecosystem.
Tunisia-founded enterprise artificial intelligence (AI) startup InstaDeep has been acquired by Nasdaq-listed German biotech company BioNTech SE in a deal that could eventually be worth GBP562 million (US$684m) to its shareholders.
Amazon advertisers can now measure results outside of Amazon stores using a new service from Stackline and Gigi. Gigi will enable unified audience buying for Amazon Marketing Cloud and Amazon DSP, which run ads in Amazon’s online stores and streaming TV channels such as Prime Video. Stackline’s panel-based multi-retailer attribution will track customer behavior across Amazon, Walmart, Target, and other major online or in-store retailers.
