Microsoft has joined the AI browser trend with Copilot Mode in Edge. Like OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas, Perplexity’s Comet, and many others, this browser can act on the user’s behalf by filling out forms or booking a hotel. It’s part of several new Copilot features Microsoft just announced.
A report from the University of Hamburg and Frankfurt School of Finance & Management finds that ChatGPT referral traffic lags behind Google search in both conversion rate and revenue per session. However, research from Ahrefs finds AI traffic outperforms on conversions, while Amsive finds no consistent difference at a statistically significant level. With overall leads going down, conversion rates are a tricky thing to consider.
Reddit has filed a lawsuit against three data-scraping companies and Perplexity for allegedly collecting and reselling Reddit posts without permission. It claims Perplexity purchased the data from the three companies despite having received a cease-and-desist warning. This is similar to a lawsuit Reddit filed against Anthropic in June.
