Numbers Hit by 2024 Data Breaches Second Highest Ever: ITRC

The Identity Theft Resource Center reports that 2024 data breaches reached the second highest level since they started tracking them in 2005. The number (3,158) fell just 44 short of 2023’s record level. Because the total includes six “mega-breaches” involving 100 million to 560 million victims, the total number of notices served to individuals quadrupled from 400 million to 1.7 billion.

Google Admits Misleading Advertisers About PMax Exclusions

Advertisers often worry that automated systems like Google Performance Max (PMax) are placing ads in undesirable locations.  After months of claiming that exclusions can only be specified manually, Google has acknowledged that PMax actually allows advertisers to specify them using an API.  There’s a good chance that this will result in more exclusions and, thus, less inventory for Google to sell.

Walt Disney and Comcast’s Universal are accusing Midjourney of using some of their best known characters (think Darth Vader and the Minions) in its AI image generator — a “bottomless pit of plagiarism,” they say. No response yet from Midjourney.
