PlaceIQ Buys FreckleIOT in Latest Location Data Consolidation

You weren’t terribly interested in Tuesday’s news about the merger of location data collectors Factual and Foursquare, Dear Reader. So I’m not sure you’ll care much that PlaceIQ is buying FreckleIOT. But it’s still worth paying attention: location data plays an increasing role in personalized customer experience and lets marketers measure real-word campaign impacts.

Protecting Personal Information Is Most Common Use of Encryption: Ponemon Institute Study

Enrichment is good, but not if it’s done with stolen data. Encryption is one way companies avoid that. This Ponemon Institute study found that Protecting customers’ personal information is now the most common reason for using encryption (54%). The most common challenge (67%) was discovering where sensitive data is stored in the organization – something else a CDP often helps companies to do.

One-Third of Marketers Will Buy a CDP This Year: Optimove Survey

Just over one-third of marketers plan to either buy a new CDP (21%) or replace an existing one (13%) this year, according to this Optimove survey. Unfortunately, it doesn’t report how many have a CDP already in place, which would put the other values in perspective. It does seem that CDPs are a relatively low priority: they rank sixth on the list of new systems and eighth on the list of systems to replace.
