Apparently, their investors find that an appealing position, since they’ve just raised a $135 million Series C, bringing total funding to $187 million. The company says it has over 125,000 users across paid and free products.

Italy’s data protection authority, the GPDP, found that ClearviewAI violated fundamental rules of GDPR when it collected biometric and geolocation data on its citizens. The data was collected without obtaining consent, so there was no transparency, or limitations on data usage or storage. Clearview is now required to erase the collected data and banned from future collection or processing of facial recognition data in Italy.
The U.S. Senate has passed a bill that could potentially ban TikTok in the U.S. if its Chinese owner, ByteDance, does not sell its holdings within a year. The bill now goes to the President Biden, who has said he will sign it. Court challenges are likely to follow.
