The American Staffing Association reports that workers are increasingly worried about how automation and AI will affect their employment. Most notably: 47% think automation could easily replace their job, up from 27% in a 2017 survey. But they’re evenly split on how automation will affect their career: 27% say it will help and 26% say it will be disruptive.
Feisty regulators are also on Microsoft’s case. Responding to EU criticisms, they are now unbundling the Teams collaboration platform from Office 365. The change only applies in Europe, since US regulators continue to be much more lax.
A Polish researcher filed a detailed complaint alleging that OpenAI’s ChatGPT is breaching GDPR in multiple areas of the law, including transparency, data access rights and privacy by design. The issues raised propose that generative AI technology violates GDPR and EU privacy rules. Italy’s regulator raised similar concerns earlier this year, and their investigation is ongoing.
Here’s a new buzzword for your Bingo card: “agentic AI”, which describes systems that act by themselves rather than in response to a prompt. Salesforce was all over the concept last week, announcing its Agentforce collection. According to the company, it replaces the “now-outdated copilots and chatbots” with agents “operating autonomously, retrieving the right data on demand, building action plans for any task, and executing these plans without requiring human intervention.”
