The U.S. Department of Justice has formally requested the sale of the Chrome browser among other measures following last August’s guilty verdict in its search advertising antitrust suit (not to be confused with last week’s guilty verdict in the adtech antitrust lawsuit). Google is asking for a much narrower focus on deals to be the default search engine for Apple, Mozilla and others. There will be a three-week hearing on the government’s proposals.
Gartner’s 2025 Magic Quadrant for CDPs was released a few weeks ago to the usual chorus of criticism. We’ll only note that TrustRadius has found that just 14% of B2B tech buyers consult analyst reports, down from 35% just three years ago. Most-used information sources per TrustRadius are prior experience (52%), product demonstrations (48%), user reviews (47%), vendor websites (45%) and free trials (36%), while 72% said they saw results from a Google Search AI Overview and 22% said they trust AI results always or very often, up from 9%... We learned last week that most links in AI Overviews go to Google rather than external websites. Here’s more bad news for publishers: when AI Overviews appear alongside Google Search results, search click-throughs are cut by 34.5% (on average, for the top ranking page). This from an analysis of 300,000 keywords by Ahrefs.
Databricks is highlighting its interest in marketers through out-of-the-box integrations with partners including Adobe, Braze, Salesforce, MessageGears, and Tealium. All will be able to run campaigns using information in the Databricks data intelligence platform without data syncing or copying.
