The Federal Trade Commission filed a complaint alleging Sendit; a popular app that integrates with Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat; violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by collecting kids’ data without consent and by deceiving its young users into buying site membership. In the latest round of AI vs. copyright holders, Character.AI has removed Disney characters from its platform in response to a cease-and-desist letter from the company. It’s unknown if this will prove to be a precedent. OpenAI’s Sora is taking a different approach by requiring copyright holders to opt out of being used.
American Express is the latest company to make its customer data available in a retail media network. Amex Ads provides contextual targeting based on extensive first-party data, as well as ad measurement for online and offline sales. The program is currently available on AmexTravel.com and will expand to other platforms in the future.
