FTC Is Shocked That Marketers Use Consumer Data

UK Anti-Trust Agency Targets Google Search

Jamie also shares that the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating whether Google has a dominant position in search marketing.  They know the answer but need a formal finding to designate Google as having “strategic market status” under the UK’s new digital marketing competition regime.  This will empower the CMA to impose conduct requirements and pro-competition interventions.  In other words, the fun is just begun.

noyb files GDPR complaint against six platforms for transfers to China

TikTok, AliExpress, SHEIN, Temu, WeChat and Xiaomi were flagged by noyb, the privacy advocacy group, for unlawfully transferring EU data to China. While only four admit to sending their data to China, the others don’t disclose where they send data, so expectation is that transfers include to China. This is considered high risk because China is a surveillance state that does not guarantee that it will honor GDPR.

Children’s Privacy: FTC gives edtech a pass in COPPA rules update

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has decided to forgo the opportunity to crack down on mass privacy overreach of educational technology companies by deferring the matter to the Department of Education’s Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This coming at a time when the Trump administration wants to weaken the education department, looks like a big a gift to edtech companies which have run amok sharing data without clear restrictions.

CDP Industry Continues Shift to Embedded Systems: Report

The second half of 2024 saw the CDP industry continue its shift towards embedding CDPs in customer-facing systems, according to the CDP Institute’s latest Industry Update report. Nearly all firms new to the report had added a CDP to an existing product, and major acquisitions including ActionIQ, Lytics, and mParticle were all made by customer management vendors. The new report adds coverage of composable CDP vendors, which is still a much smaller sector than conventional CDP systems.
