In the latest round of AI vs. copyright holders, Character.AI has removed Disney characters from its platform in response to a cease-and-desist letter from the company. It’s unknown if this will prove to be a precedent. OpenAI’s Sora is taking a different approach by requiring copyright holders to opt out of being used.
Opera has joined the agentic browser bandwagon with the launch of Opera Neon. It features self-contained workspaces called Tasks to bring together various sources, as well as the Neon Do function to operate across the web on your behalf. There are also reusable prompt instructions called Cards.
KERV.ai has announced its Contextual Marketplace for object-level targeting, which means using AI to determine exactly what’s happening onscreen and delivering a relevant ad. In other CTV news, The Trade Desk wants to develop a custom version of its Ventura OS for DIRECTV, but it seems unlikely to happen. And Viant is partnering with Tubi for further addressability.
BetterUp and Stanford Social Media Lab define workslop as “AI-generated content that looks good, but lacks substance.” Their survey of 1,150 full-time desk workers in the U.S. finds that 40% received workslop in the last month, costing $186 per month per employee. For a 10,000-person company, that’s $9 million annually.
