Children’s Privacy: Sendit accused of violating COPPA, duping kids

The Federal Trade Commission filed a complaint alleging Sendit; a popular app that integrates with Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat; violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by collecting kids’ data without consent and by deceiving its young users into buying site membership. The third-party app which allows users to send each other anonymous questions, was found sending users fake, suggestive messages, and then charging a fee for users to find out who sent it to them. What was also not clear was that the $9.99 fee for information was in fact a recurring payment.
