According to research from brand visibility platform Yext, when someone Gemini, ChatGPT, or Perplexity a direct question, such as “What [category] is near me?”, over 40% of citations are from company websites. However, when the question is subjective, such as “What is the best [category]?”, ChatGPT shifts to third-party directories instead. Yext’s conclusion is that brands should “control their narrative” with factual information to better serve direct queries.
