Data leaks are less a concern to consumers than poor environmental records or product failures, according to a YouGov survey, though the number increases substantially in Asia-Pacific markets.
Australia’s Senate just passed the Surveillance Legislation Amendment Bill, which provides the police sweeping authority over online data, allowing law authorities to take over accounts, alter and delete data. While designed to tackle serious crimes, critics are concerned the scope of the law, which is pending final approval by the Governor General, seems very broad.
Findings include: 1) while 85% of 1,000 marketers surveyed think consumers understand their privacy policies, only 61% of consumers read them and half of those understood them; 2) 60% of the consumers said they want more information on how to change or delete their data; marketers, meanwhile, are facing challenges from multiple market forces.
