Australia’s Senate just passed the Surveillance Legislation Amendment Bill, which provides the police sweeping authority over online data, allowing law authorities to take over accounts, alter and delete data. While designed to tackle serious crimes, critics are concerned the scope of the law, which is pending final approval by the Governor General, seems very broad.
