Today we’ll contemplate that most sublime of mysteries: the mind of the consumer. A carefully designed study from Intent Lab tested whether giving consumers what they wanted – that is, showing them products they are looking for – gives better results than trying to address their underlying goals. Turns out that messages related to goals are more effective.

Two new CISCO reports reveal global concern about remote work security CISCO’s surveys the Future of Secure Remote Work Report of 3,000 IT executives and second annual Consumer Privacy Survey of 2,600 consumers, highlight challenges of remote work during the pandemic. The first reports 85% of companies say cybersecurity is extremely important; the second found 60% of users are concerned about the privacy of remote connection tools.

US Requests Breakup of Google

The U.S. Department of Justice has formally requested the sale of the Chrome browser among other measures following last August’s guilty verdict in its search advertising antitrust suit (not to be confused with last week’s guilty verdict in the adtech antitrust lawsuit). Google is asking for a much narrower focus on deals to be the default search engine for Apple, Mozilla and others. There will be a three-week hearing on the government’s proposals.
